Project Smile: Motivational and Awareness Program for School Kids

13 March 2017

Kossan International organized a motivational event at SJK (C) Pui Ying school together with the support from MFPA artists. The objective of the event was to encourage students to have a positive mindset when faced with life challenges and to understand the power of positive thinking through the art demonstration conducted by disabled artists.

The headmistress of SJK (C) Pui Ying spoke about the opportunity for students to study hard and develop their own unique talent and abilities. She stressed to the children that hardship is the inevitable processes of life, we should grasp every second hope, and learn how to appreciate life by the value not the length.

MFPA is an international, non-profit association wholly owned and run by disabled artists to help them meet their financial needs. Members paint with brushes held in their mouths or feet as a result of a disability sustained at birth or through an accident or illness that prohibits them from using their hands. The publishers reproduce its artists’ original paintings as unique greeting cards, calendar and a wide range of other products, which brings vital and financial security to its artists.

We are grateful to have the support of the artists from MFPA Malaysia; Siti Aisyah and Mohd Khairuddin to perform a live demonstration of foot painting. This was followed by Q&A session with the artists and children. Throughout the interactive sessions, we successfully gain positive responds from the children.

The association was founded from the inspiration of Nick Vujicic. He was born without limbs and was bullied by others at the time of schooling, and even planned to end his life when he was ten. He began to stand up for himself, he stopped complaining and tried hard every day to help more people in need. He quotes: "If you think you don't get miracles, then you can be somebody else's miracle." He travels around the world and encourages others to jump out of narrow thinking to look forward to the future.

This event creates an awareness for students to make the right choices when faced with challenges through the Power of Positive thinking and aim for great success.

“When life gives you lemons, make lemonade”.
