Kossan Rubber Industries Bhd. (“KOSSAN”) is the 1st glove manufacturer in the world to be awarded the Halal certification by the Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM) through both its subsidiaries Kossan International Sdn. Bhd. and Wear Safe Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., receiving the certificate on the sidelines of the Selangor Halal Festival held in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor.
Kossan Rubber Industries Bhd. Group Managing Director and CEO, Tan Sri Dato’ Lim Kuang Sia said, “This achievement places KOSSAN at the forefront of a global solution to meet the stringent demands of the Halal industry, not just for the food sector, but also for the entire Halal value chain.”
Malaysia’s halal certification is the most stringent and highly sought-after bilateral halal system recognition programme, which is globally recognised with over 50 international bodies registered-to-date with JAKIM’s recognition programme. Through the adoption of the Halal Assurance System (HAS), KOSSAN adds another feather in its cap in establishing stringent controls within its manufacturing processes to meet global customer requirements. The Halal Assurance System is manifested through the concept of “Halalan Toyyiban” (quality and wholesome) which equates to quality products complying to GMP and HACCP requirements besides fulfillment of Shari’ah law. The HAS mandates stringent controls throughout the integrated supply chain system, from raw material sourcing, manufacturing, handling, packaging and storage of products until transportation for distribution. The systems ultimate aim is to eliminate contaminations, including Halal threats on the products.
KOSSAN recognizes the need to serve the communities of halal oriented businesses, both Muslims and non-Muslims alike. The Muslim population counts approximately 1.8 billion across the world. Studies by IMF and PWC have also shown that between 1990 and 2010, GDP per capita for Muslims worldwide has grown at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 6.8%. Additionally, Halal products and services are also gaining increasing acceptability among non-Muslims, and the global market value for trade in halal food and non-food products is estimated at US$2.1 trillion annually. The Ministry of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia has also announced that the country’s halal industry is projected to reach RM50 billion in trade exports by 2020.
“With such growth potential, it is only natural that we explore and meet the demands of this vast and untapped market. We are pleased to be a part of the growing Halal industry, something which Malaysia is renowned for internationally,” added Tan Sri Dato’ Lim.
With the Halal Assurance System in place, KOSSAN seeks to serve the communities of Halal oriented businesses complementing their needs for safe and hygienic assurance throughout its supply chain. KOSSAN is proud to present its first Halal glove brand “Confidenz”, which is now available in Malaysia via on-line purchase at http://www.e-shirudo.com.
